Which Doodle is the best?

There is no one “best Doodle”. Every family and every lifestyle will have dog breeds that they match well with, and others that are a less optimal fit.

The best Doodle is the one that you want to live with, and that you get along with the best!

If you like to Netflix and chill, the best Doodle is a calm one – such as a Maltipoo or Cockapoo. If you enjoy the outdoors and love nothing more than being active and going on adventures, the best Doodle for you is an Aussiedoodle or a Borderdoodle.

Note that most first-time dog owners vastly overestimate their ability to exercise and train dogs. You should not get a high-energy Doodle breed unless you are very confident that you can meet this dog’s energy level and fulfill his training requirements!

How do I choose a Doodle breed?

When choosing a Doodle breed, pay attention to the following key characteristics and make sure they fit your idea of a perfect companion:

  • Size
  • Energy level
  • Training needs
  • Grooming needs (they can be quite extensive for large Doodles!)

It is really important that you are clear for yourself in what you want to have in a dog. Are you looking for a lap dog that sleeps next to you on the couch after a long day at work? Do you want a friendly, docile dog to raise alongside your children? Or do you have aspirations in dog sports and want to win agility trophies?

Pick your Doodle puppy based on what your plans are for him!

Which Doodle is the calmest?

The calmest Doodle mixes are those that were created by crossing Poodles with very laid-back breeds. For example:

  • The Maltipoo – a cross of Miniature or Toy Poodle and Maltese
  • The Cavapoo: A mix of Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Mini or Toy Poodle
  • The Mini Bernedoodle – a cross of Bernese Mountain Dog and Mini Poodle

However, there is no truly calm dog breed that never has its crazy moments. Every puppy – no matter which Doodle cross – will be riled up at times and require daily exercise and training. Do not make the mistake to think that just because you picked a “calm Doodle”, he or she won’t require engagement and work!
