What is the best way to go about training my puppy to go potty (specifically #2) in a specific area of grass in my backyard?

Exactly the same as described – just that you stand only at that one spot, with your puppy on a leash so he cannot leave, and wait there until the business is done 🙂

Once the puppies does go potty, do you use a bridge word such as “Yes” and reward with a small treat to reinforce the desired behavior? Maybe you discuss rewards more in the Training Time section and I’m getting a head of myself 🙂

You can do that, however some really food driven dogs will just become too focused on the treat and be too eager to try to jump up and steal it or try to sit for attention etc. to actually go potty 😀 So – it will depend on your individual dog. If you can hide the treat and your puppy goes potty and then you deliver it – perfect!
But keep in mind that this might not work for puppies that REALLY like food and that will not be able to concentrate on peeing when they expect food around 😉 For those, it is also ok to not reward with food – since it is a necessary behavior (all dogs need to pee eventually, and we just need to time it right that it happens outside) we do not need to have treat rewards.
