I’ve been working on this one. For some reason my puppy will not come stand directly below me. She will come and sit a few feet behind me. How can I help her to become more comfortable and willing to come sit directly beneath me?

Some dogs have something I call “spatial sensitivity”, meaning they feel uncomfortable in what they perceive to be tight spaces. This can also apply to this trick. You can try to make the space between your legs bigger and less cary by eg putting one leg up onto the couch or a stool – that might make the opening big enough for her to not be sketched out 🙂

Good idea! I’ll try that and see if that helps. When ever I ask her to sit, she will back up about three feet away from me and then sit down (She does this also when we play “sit and go”). I would prefer her to come up to me and sit right at my feet. Can I correct this?

You can try to lure her in for the sit with the spoon with spray cheese as in the leash walking exercises – and then reward right there in position close to you.
