Any advice on bathing a puppy? Helping them to like it better. Or specific things to know, do or avoid when bathing?

    1. Steffi Trott

Start as early as possible! Some dogs might need quite a lot of work to “truly enjoy” baths, but it is always possible to get them used to it and make it a part of like that they will accept. But – the later you start, the more difficult it might be. The first times, bathe a puppy when he is already a bit tired. There are mats you can use with peanut butter to stick in the bathtub for distraction:

And then just be consistent. As with the brushing, even if the dog doesn’t “need” a bath, you will thank yourself in a few months for getting him used to it now 🙂

I have been grooming my collie all along. He hates when I brush by his back legs and butt. He may even cry when I am definitely not tugging or catching a tangle. Do you have any idea why this may be and suggestions?

What kind of brush are you using? Hind legs are prone to getting brush burn if you “really go for it” there. Do you use a slicker brush, Furminator …?
