Hi, I have completed the tackling reactivity course with my dog Jasper and found it excellent. jasper is very much improved but can still react to some dogs occasionally and to sudden things that happen in the environment. Also he finds the most challenging situations when we are sat down somewhere, tho again he is improving with this all the time using CER ie every time anything moves or approaches whether human or dog, treats appear….it’s a work in progress for us both and I suspect will be for a while yet but we are both determined. I have always played distraction techniques with him like jumping up on benches or fallen trees during our walks. Do you find parkour is something that helps reactive dogs ?
Thank you for reaching out.
I’m glad to hear that you are seeing improvements with Jasper. It sounds like you have been super committed to working with him, that’s fantastic.
It’s definitely a process and takes time for sure however it sounds like you are definitely on the right track. He’s lucky to have someone who’s so invested in helping him feel more comfortable and relaxed.
Parkour is a great exercise and supplement to any walk for sure. Keeping our dog’s brain busy and mentally stimulated definitely helps and makes a huge difference. It also gives them lots of tasks to do so that is perfect 🙂 I would definitely keep incorporating it into your walks as you’ve been doing.
Keep up the great work.
